¹¹ Then the priests and the prophets said to the officials and all the people, “This man should be sentenced to death^(A) because he has prophesied against this city. You have heard it with your own ears!”^(B)

¹² Then Jeremiah said to all the officials^(C) and all the people: “The Lord sent me to prophesy^(D) against this house and this city all the things you have heard.^{(E) 13} Now reform^(F) your ways and your actions and obey^(G) the Lord your God. Then the Lord will relent^(H) and not bring the disaster he has pronounced against you. ¹⁴ As for me, I am in your hands;^(I) do with me whatever you think is good and right. ¹⁵ Be assured, however, that if you put me to death, you will bring the guilt of innocent blood^(J) on yourselves and on this city and on those who live in it, for in truth the Lord has sent me to you to speak all these words^(K) in your hearing.”

¹⁶ Then the officials^(L) and all the people said to the priests and the prophets, “This man should not be sentenced to death!^(M) He has spoken to us in the name of the Lord our God.”

³ The chief priests accused him of many things. ⁴ So again Pilate asked him, “Aren’t you going to answer? See how many things they are accusing you of.”

⁵ But Jesus still made no reply,^(A) and Pilate was amazed.

⁸ Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit,^(A) said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people!^{(B) 9} If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame^(C) and are being asked how he was healed, ¹⁰ then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth,^(D) whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead,^(E) that this man stands before you healed. ¹¹ Jesus is

¹² Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”^(G)

¹⁸ Then they called them in again and commanded them not to speak or teach at all in the name of Jesus.^{(A) 19} But Peter and John replied, “Which is right in God’s eyes: to listen to you, or to him?^(B) You be the judges! ²⁰ As for us, we cannot help speaking^(C) about what we have seen and heard.”^(D)

²⁹ Peter and the other apostles replied: “We must obey God rather than human beings!^{(A) 30} The God of our ancestors^(B) raised Jesus from the dead^(C)—whom you killed by hanging him on a cross.^{(D) 31} God exalted him to his own right hand^(E) as Prince and Savior^(F) that he might bring Israel to repentance and forgive their sins.^{(G) 32} We are witnesses of these things,^(H) and so is the Holy Spirit,^(I) whom God has given to those who obey him.”
